a few notes on how Shirley's clients have responded to her paintings.
From:
Kathi Miller
It was just a painting of a seven hundred square foot cabin built in 1940. Perched on the edge of a lake in northern Minnesota. Not much of an architectural wonder, just a plain box cabin by the lake. My family has owned it for nearly 50years. I'm sure it's changed colors several times.
When I first saw Shirley's painting of it, it brought me to tears. When I gave it to my father, he just stared at it; you could almost see him reliving each of our vacations. Shirley painted our cabin yes, but we never expected her to capture our memories. The American flag we put on our porch, the minute we would arrive-it signaled "cabin time". The tree stump, where my younger brother would play air guitar. The worn path to the dock where we would fish for hours, using just about anything for bait.
What I expected to get back from Shirley was just a painting of the cabin. What I really have is so much more than that, an incredible amount of memories. I am forever grateful to Shirley for preserving this for my family and me.
